| Fraternities in the Philippines was started by the Spanish Freemasons whcih is considered as the oldest brotherhood in the world. But during this Spanish era time, membership was reserved to the Spanish elite. When the Americans came to the Philippines in 1898, some of the military men were also members of the Freemason Fraternity. But now, native filipinos were encouraged to join. Under the american colonization in the Philippines, schools were made like the University of the Philippines. In it came the first filipino fraternity which is the Upsilon Sigma Phi, founded in 1918.
In October 4, 1968, six University of the Philippines students founded the Tau Gamma Phi and they changed the definition of a fraternity. With Tau Gamma Phi, a fraternity became a way of life* and the rest is history. | |

| Tau Gamma Phi revolves in the pursuit of Excellence in your field whether you are a student, a working person, a professional, an OFW, a parent, a wife, or somebody looking for a direction in your life. To achieve this goal, Tau Gamma Phi emphasizes education. There are other principles that Tau Gamma Phi preaches. They are basic filipino values like hard work, cammaraderie, smart finance, the preservation of a strong family, mental and physical strenght. It also spouses discipline, planning, professionalism, practical principles and some common sense to achieve objectives.long live........................ | |
